“Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect.”
― Mark Twain
Having healthy kids can be a very daunting task if you buck the current trends.
In 2010 the Utah dept. of health found that 20.4% of elementary students are overweight, most are boys. Nationally, 80% of kids are obese by age 12.
That’s appalling
Insurance companies don’t pay for you to be healthy. It isn’t really health care, it is sick care.
Being healthy takes money and it has to be a family priority, period. But, how about a few ideas that don’t cost anything or much.
#1 Don't "treat" your kids by taking them to a fast food place. I hear this a lot. If you're good I'll take you to _______'s. Number one, the "food" their is incredibly destructive to their health and yours, but they are also learning that a fast food place is something special, of high value. You can save money by not going.
Health is an inside-out job. Always was and always will be. Processed food devoid of all natural nutrients can't help a kid grow and be healthy.
#2 Asthma is a major problem with kids. The Outside approach is what? A steroid inhaler, right. So where is asthma coming from? Well, A recent article in the medical journal Chest, that linked a 50% increase in asthma in very young children to antibiotics. (another outside approach)
Here are 3 inside approaches I’ve seen help. First, probiotics can help undue the damage to the guts from the antibiotics. Second, in the amazing book, Your bodies many cries for Water, asthma is listed as a byproduct of dehydration. It is a pretty fascinating thought. Third, is using chiropractic to release nerve pressure going to the nerves of the lungs. (Lots of research on this)
Most parents don't bring their kids to the chiropractor because they seem fine. Kids are incredibly resilient and rarely show problems, because to them, it's normal. Looking at my X-Rays I was between 10 and 14 years old when my back problems started.
Also, a lot of kids don't drink water. Plain, good water. Pop, Milk, and juice dominate and all are expensive. Kids just need water, free, and nourishing.
#3 ADHD. This is a very large problem. For one, active normal kids are being misdiagnosed as hyperactive pretty regularly, estimates are close to a million kids. But a true ADHD outside approach is to use a psycho-active drug like Ritalin. (nothing like a little kiddie cocaine to make a classroom all warm a fuzzy)
- Here are some natural inside out approaches that any family can do.
- Eliminate grains and sugars from the child’s diet. They heavily contribute to allergic reactions and diabetes.
- Replace all drinks with water. Once again, they heavily contribute to allergic reactions (milk) and diabetes (soda).
- Add fish oils / cod liver oils (very critical for normal brain function by adding essential fatty acids).
- Avoid all processed foods, severely devoid of critical vitamins and minerals . Give them whole, natural foods and whole food supplements. Without nutrition the brain works poorly. See the book “The Crazy Makers”. I think all parents should read this book. The library has it.
- Get the kids adjusted by a chiropractor. I can’t begin to relate the amazing stories I’ve seen involving cerebral palsy, asthma, ADHD, sleeping, colic, self-mutilation, nausea while reading, failure to thrive, walking, running, and on and on. All improved with an adjustment to a bone causing pressure on a nerve.
I’ve seen all these small changes have major impacts on kids. I've got lots of stories about kids lives radically improving by these simple things. Ask me anytime about how to help kids.
It takes a strong and dedicated parent unwilling to cave to mass media to make a difference.
