This red truck pulls up next to me at the light. When the light turns green he mashes the gas, like he's doing a time trial on the quarter-mile track. He pulls in front of me within a block and a half and proceeds to turn right, into McDonald's.
You might be thinking I just made this up to start this blog post with a funny story, I didn't, this is actually true.
I busted out laughing in my truck.
How can someone be in such a hurry to die?
I'm quite sure he wasn't actually thinking that, but I was.
If you spend enough time reading about health, you'll eventually be asked "who was the largest mass murder of all time?"
It's common to think maybe Hitler or Stalin, would be the right answer.
A very good argument can be made for Ray Kroc, the founder of McDonalds.
If you've never heard that before, you must watch the movie "Super Size Me".
Let's say that it's Halloween, and the guy behind the counter is dressed up like a samurai warrior. Since it's Halloween, you don't think it's odd at all, until the guy ordering food gets decapitated. You study the situation, and come to the quick realization that you probably aren't hungry anymore.
Fast food doesn't kill people quickly. It's not obvious. If you order a supersized meal, you can go home play with your kids, go to sleep, get up the next day and start your whole day over again.
It's kind of like smoking. I've never met a smoker, who doesn't know that smoking is bad for them.
I'm pretty sure, I could interview people on the street, and most people would say that fast food is bad for them. It's really no secret.
So how can McDonalds help you make more money?
If you watched the movie "supersize me" the main character becomes depressed, lethargic, overweight, and progressively less healthy, to the point, the doctors beg him to stop his 30 day experiment.
If I'm looking to hire somebody, do you think I'm going to hire the tired and depressed person?
If you're tired and depressed you are going to be doing your job at a less than optimal level. Do you think you'll make more or less money?
Your health is critical to you making more money. Plus, you'll save money by not buying the fast food junk, on doctor visits, insurance premiums, and drug costs.
I've actually had a patient tell me, he was able to work overtime for the first time, because he felt so good.
Since, most of us don't have employers that give you incentive to eat organic foods, go to the chiropractor, or exercise. You, have to take charge of your health.
Smoking doesn't kill you after one cigarette, and fast food doesn't choke you out after one cheeseburger, it's hard to feel the consequences.
This is a subconscious problem where people don't feel mortality. It is very common, for people to think that nothing bad will happen to them.
For the past 15 years, I've seen this phenomenon firsthand. It's about one in 300 new patients that comes to the office, for the very first visit, to stay healthier.
Most of the time, people need a very jarring, disastrous event for them to change their lifestyle habits. If a guy has a heart attack, he suddenly gets a lot more interested in eating better.
I have a challenge for you
Instead of super sizing you, I'd like to see if you can take the 30 day challenge to not eat fast food for the next month.
In an ironic twist of fate, we can't blame the fast food industry. This is the first mass murder campaign that I know of that is sanctioned by the victims lining up at the drive thru.
If you don't take responsibility for your own health, someone else has to.
We have 3 ways for you to take action, if you agree to take the 30 day challenge and not visit a fast food place.
#1 Being healthier takes time, It takes study, and a willingness to buck the trend. When the majority of people are unhealthy, you can't do what the majority of people are doing. We have free classes available that cover many topics with a new lesson every week.
#2 We have new family plans available. Too many patients, are leaving their spouses and kids at home. My kids were adjusted the first day they were born, and every week since. Ask me about my kids stories of chiropractic sometime when you're in the office. Our goal is to make healthcare affordable and more beneficial than anything else. Just ask me about the plans. I'm not able to publish prices, because It'll likely be better than your insurance. A healthy family is incredibly valuable. They've actually studied kids of chiropractors and kids of pediatricians and the Chiropractic kids were significantly healthier.
#3 If you're ready to be a little above average, we have whole-food supplements available and exclusive discounts for people taking advantage of our family plans. If you are one of our non-local readers I have discounts for you as well.
#4 We have also been adding exclusive gym discounts for those of you are ready to be healthier in the new year. Just ask me which gyms are on board. I'm making new alliances all the time.
