I watched him... he puts it on the seat, in front of him. So here's my question. What do you think is in the Big Gulp?
My guess, is that it's not water. I drink a lot of water, but I don't carry that much on me. He's also got a back up Gatorade under the windshield.
Ok. I started working on this article and took a break to go register my son for school. I'm sitting in the Registrar's office and sitting on her desk is not just one but TWO large soft drink containers from a local fast food place.
What's so interesting to me, is when people drink water, they just drink a glass at a time. Not monster sizes. This may help explain this phenomenon.
The Journal of the American Medical Association in January 2013 had an article on Fructose and what it does to you. Here are a few highlights.
“Sucrose and high-fructose corn syrup are added not just to sodas, energy drinks, and sports drinks favored by adolescents and adults but also to juice drinks consumed by infants and toddlers and to snacks, processed meats, sauces, and many other foods consumed by people of all ages.”
It's in almost every packaged food.
Individuals consuming high-fructose diets gain significantly more weight than those consuming diets void of high-fructose.
“When the human brain is exposed to fructose, neurobiological pathways
involved in appetite regulation are modulated, thereby promoting increased food intake.”
The real problem is fructose messes up your brains ability to know when you are full. It's easy to super-size a meal when you don't feel full.
One of the most common questions I get outside of chiropractic and pain questions is about weight loss. Skip the low-fat diets and adopt a low-fructose diet, and leave your big gulps in the recycling bin.
