In 1953, It all started with a mouse and its exercise. Researchers noticed that the mouse that exercised was thinner. I don't know about you, but I know plenty of women that exercise religiously and never lose weight. My wife used to be one of them, until we figured out she had a hormone problem. Boom, she lost 33 lbs, that year. She actually exercised less.
I used to have a body fat percentage that was immovable. I worked out, hard, three times a week. It wasn't until I stopped exercising and significantly destressed my life, that my body fat dropped a percentage a month. I couldn't believe it.

Between the years, 1980-2000 fitness club memberships doubled, ironically so did obesity. You can actually see the graphs on the CDC's website of the states, year by year. They have been tracking obesity.
In the movie they have a 12 year old that weights 212 lbs. It's kind of a sad story, because she wants to weigh less, but is at a total loss on how. Swims 4 days a week, and walks her dog on the weekend. Doctor told he to join weight watchers, shes not old enough, though. He mom is going through the pantry and talking about how she looks for reduced fat and high fiber foods. She pulls out a box of Reduced fat Triscuits.
***Here's a side note, the box of crackers, is nothing more than a devitalized, processed, sugar spiking, tasty square of fat-storing, diabetes inducing, goodness. As the camera pans through the kitchen we see 5-6 boxes of cereal. This has the same fat storing effect as the crackers. She uses the cereal as the go-to food. I feel bad for the kid, because none of it is actually food.***
She says "My weight stays the same".
People can't exercise their way out of this problem.
A 20 oz. Soft drink means you have to bike an hour and 15 min. I don't have time for that. To me that's a terrible trade off, because a Calorie is not a calorie. They aren't created equal. They use the example below:
160 calories of almonds. They have lots of good fiber, therefore they digest slowly and blood sugar rises slow.
160 calorie soft drink. Has no fiber. It absorbed directly by the liver. It nails your body and pancreas with an instant sugar hit, which is then stored as fat.
Which calories do you want? The commercials are lying to you.
The next kid is in the same boat, Age 13, 180lbs. He's standing in the kitchen eating Special K chips. Same problem as our crackers. The kids has no chance of losing weight. They interview his doctor and the kids weight is accelerating. He's worried he'll have a heart attack. The kids only 13. The point of this interview was to highlight that the mom only bought processed foods because they are cheaper. Like many people, she doesn't realize that it can be cheaper to eat healthy.
This is not a genetic problem, and this the tragedy of American youth.
In 1980, Type 2 diabetes in adolescents was (0). Yes, they actually called it adult-onset diabetes.
In 2010, Type 2 diabetes in adolescents was 57,638. If you are pretty disgusted at that number, I'll show you how to reverse it.
This all started in 1977
In 1977, Senator George McGovern released a report stating that obesity would soon be the number one form of malnutrition and rising medical costs. Yes, you read that right, even back then, they recognized obesity as malnutrition. We will be covering this much more in the next few weeks, but remember that for now. I have a cool challenge for you coming up, next week as well.

He called for "Reduced Intake" of fats, like eggs and meat, and sugar. Well, the political lobbyist jumped into full action and forced a rewrite of the senator's report.
"Reduced intake" of fat was removed to now promote LOW FAT. Now, a new industry was born. Guess what, low fat means they now increased sugar to give it some taste. From 1977-2000 Americans have doubled their intake of sugar. That's a pretty close correlation to the type 2 diabetes increase and obesity. Disease doesn't happen in one meal , but it does in a 1000.
Check this GRAPHIC out. The retooling of the McGovern report by industry lobbyist is the reason you don't see daily% on any label for sugar.
American Heart Association recommends
6-9 tsp sugar a day (Cereal and orange juice will hit this threshold = 8.5 tsp)
Actual average in america 41 tsp.
So, you might be thinking that having some artificial sweeteners will be the answer.
There is a big problem, artificial sweeteners trick the brain and makes you hungry. Thats not awesome if you are not good on your diet.
