Something bad happens to all of us. It's happened to me. I see it everyday in the office when new patients come in hurt. But, there are two kinds of outcomes, get stuff fixed quick, or wait till things get worse.
This is fairly typical human nature. Fix stuff when it breaks, right?
When your car breaks down, it's pretty easy to see that it doesn't work, and you can go to a garage and get it fixed. It might cost you $1000 bucks, but hey, it works.
All of us are going to experience one of these OHHH SHoooT moments. Statistically speaking, at least one of these is very, very likely to happen to you.
Heart attack, Cancer diagnosis, Severe low back pain, Diabetes, and the dreaded Alzheimer's.
If you treat your body like your car, you could be in real trouble.
Heart attacks - about 1/2 of all victims first symptom IS THE heart attack. That's not good. That's like having the first sign that your brakes are bad, is a crash going down a mountain road. You could get lucky, but odds are you won't. We are going to cover this later, but for now, one thing you should know is that cholesterol isn't the cause of the heart attack.
Cancer - wow, this is bad. No good options here. The conventional treatments can be worse than the disease. Cancer is a direct reflection of your immune system. There are unfortunately, many ways to lower your immune system. This will be our toughest and most important topic through the rest of the year. Best thing to do right now, stop eating sugar.
Severe low back pain - at least 80% of people right now have had low back pain. That's common.
This 2012 study looked at 589 low back pain patients from 30 different clinical practices.
7% Primary Care
67% Physical Therapy
19% Chiropractic
7% Surgical spine
They wanted to know
#1 Are low back reoccurrences common? 73% had previous episodes
#2 Do low back pain episodes worsen with multiple reoccurrences? 61% reported yes
#3 Does low back pain change location? 76% reported yes
The study states that:
69% of patients with RECENT low back pain still had it one year later
82% of patients with NON-RECENT back pain still had it one year later.
Only 21% reported complete recovery at 3 months
“Most persistent disabling back pain is preceded by episodes that, although they may resolve completely, may also increase in severity and duration over time.”
Getting adjusted every 2-4 weeks is the easiest way to keep out of trouble.
Diabetes - This one is as irritating as the one mosquito flying around your head in the middle of the night. You know the cause, you just have to get up (as much as you don't want to), turn on the lights and track the little bugger down. Diabetes is a big deal, because it will slowly kill you. Now, you can treat these issues how ever you see fit. We can argue all day about treatments in general, but this one is pretty simple, stop eating sugar / simple carbohydrates (as much as you don't want to). A great place to start is in the morning. No more cereal, have some eggs.
Bad things are going to happen. That's pretty much a guarantee. How you deal with it, and what you do will make a big difference. The one thing I know, is that the healthier you are when something does happen, the better chance you have to survive and even thrive.
There is a big difference in 80 year olds that are drug-free and active and those that have one foot in the grave. You want to be the former. Start this weekend.
3 things to do this weekend.
1. Make at least 1 smoothie. Do it the easy way to start.
Gateway office is open 10-11:30
Draper office is open 1-2pm
3. Spend time doing something you really like. Watching TV doesn't count.
