The last two blog posts we covered why people come in (pain), and why people want to keep coming back, (they feel better).
Sometimes people with chronic pain have a real hard time understanding how that can work. So, today's post we're going to talk about how to tell if chiropractic might help some one.
With a fun little test.
But first you need some background.
One of the absolute wonderful side benefits of getting adjusted, is that the mechanoreceptors in your body, start to function at a higher level.
Huh?
#1 What's a mechanoreceptor?
Glad you asked, they are little sensors in your joints, your muscles, your tendons, and your skin, and they give your brain feedback on what's going on with your body. It's one of the ways that you keep from falling over.
#2 How does a mechanoreceptor get messed up?
The easiest way, is by having a trauma. It can be any kind of trauma, car accidents, slips, falls, etc. You don't have to be a mixed martial artist to experience trauma.
Soon scar tissue and fibrous adhesions starts to stiffen up the joint or the tissue. As they stiffen up, you lose your ability to send messages to the brain.
#3 Test yourself.
Don't do this by any furniture, or anything that you might fall into :)
Stand with your feet together -stay still.
Now, try closing your eyes -stay still.
If you can't stay still, your joints have no idea where you are in space.
Now, try standing on 1 foot -stay still.
#4 How'd you do?
If you're pretty wobbly, then going to a chiropractor is in order. If you've had long standing degenerative joint disease, this can be a long project. If the joint has 20 years of damage, it will need regular care. I'm a good example of that. Just ask me.
These problems are in isolated joints. This is the beauty and art of chiropractic, to find the problems and fix them.
Try that little test with your friends.
If they have never been to a chiropractor, here's a little gift to help.
They can come for free with this link.
