Here we are in the middle of October. The only real time any one talks about breast cancer, so lets put on some pink and make a difference. Men, if you are thinking of not reading this, hang on a minute. Men do get breast cancer. So, read the rest for your health, and forward this to any female you care about.
Quick facts according to National Cancer Foundation.
-1 in 8 women get breast cancer (It used to be 1 in 20 in 1960)
-Get 7 of your friends together, and try and guess who has cancer, then read this article together.
-This is the number one cancer for women
-The only appreciable dip in cancer rates occurred after a huge study came out in 2000 highlighting that hormone replacement medications increased breast cancer. Guess what? Women stopped taking the meds and the cancer rates fell. Ponder that for a moment.
I've been around long enough to remember that, and within a year, women forgot about that and I had patients coming in on the meds again.
So did wearing pink at a football game help? No, women took it upon themselves to do something.
Here we are again in 2014 with another LANDMARK study, from the British Medical Journal, Feb 11, 2014. This used 89,835 Canadian women. This was a big study.
They randomly assigned women to get 5 annual mammograms or into a control group with no mammograms. They are ultimately tracking DEATHS from breast cancer, because that's what really counts, right.
At the 25 year follow up, 500 died in the mammogram group and 505 died in the non-mammogram group. It didn't even matter what age group they were in.
"Annual mammography screening had no effect on breast cancer mortality beyond that of breast physical examinations".
So, here's the point. Whether you get a mammogram or not is purely up to you, but please don't rely on that alone. There are better things. Yes, I'm not going to leave you hanging.
What I'm going to do is let you read this book, because prevention is ultimately up to you. No one else is going to feed you kale. We'll get to that in a minute.
This website spends millions of dollars on legal fees to keep this information available, so don't take it lightly. If you want to learn how to spot breast cancer earlier than a mammogram, read this.
My wife has had 2 thermograms. If you want to have a thermogram, the best screener in Utah is in the Draper office. I have no affiliation with her, but I can get you connected if you want it done.
One of the problems this study highlighted was the over-diagnosis with mammograms. It was actually 22%. That was significant. So if you do get a mammogram and a positive shows up, I'd suggest doing the OncoBlot test. I'd actually suggest this for all women. Especially, if you are at high risk. "It can identify all known forms of human cancer", including breast cancer.
Now, we are at an interesting point in this story. This is where alternative health and medical treatment split. If you get diagnosed, then your options get fairly limited in a hurry. But, where I'd like women to make a difference is changing the status quo.
Just type "breast cancer rates over time" into Google. It looks like the stock market. Up and down every year, but significantly higher than, say, 40 years ago. So when you hear a commercial that says "we are winning the war on breast cancer" That's complete BS. They only come out on the down years and market that.
Wearing pink in October can make you feel all warm and fuzzy on the inside, but I would like women to stand up and start doing things differently. Don't be average. Maybe start wearing purple, for a Royal feeling. Guys if you have read this far, that Royal reference was for all you baseball fans.
Now, what to do.
#1 Start with getting a thermogram. Go to the sites above, or type in mercola.com and search for "thermography". Start reading. Just don't read traditional websites like Susan G. They are very depressing and offer you no hope of prevention. Sadly, I looked, and much of their diet advice is flat out bad.
#2 Start balancing your hormones and limiting your exposure to environmental estrogen's. Read the book linked to above. Estrogen is either causing or fueling breast cancer. This is a very well established fact. There are, unfortunately, a huge list of things contributing, read the book. You won't be able to avoid everything, so the simplest thing, is to start eating Kale and or Brussels sprouts daily. Research has shown that this class of vegetable can reduce estrogen by up to 500%. Plus, they are crazy nutritious, and good for your liver. I learned this from Dr. Lee at a lecture, liver detoxing is absolutely critical to reducing dangerous estrogen metabolites. We will talk about liver detoxing later.
So, if you eating kale daily, good for you. If you haven't taken that step yet, Standard Process makes a supplement called Cruciferous Complete with kale and Brussels sprouts in it. Do one or the other daily.
Your mom told you to eat your veggies.
#3 The second driving force is inflammation. This is a universal problem for nearly every one. Once, again we'll cover this in more detail later. Inflammation fuels breast cancer and one of the best reducers of inflammation is turmeric. Now, if you read the book "Grain Brain" you'll be familiar with Curcumin and the benefits to your health. The studies they did with breast cancer also used curcumin. Curcumin is a part of the spice turmeric. The one thing I know about natural supplements / herbs / spices is that they exist as a complex for a reason. So, I don't recommend you take curcumin, but rather take / use turmeric.
Once again, if you are cooking with this (good for you), and we use it, but not regularly. So, my best advice is to use Boswellia Complex from Mediherb (turmeric is one of the main ingredients). I take this every day, so does my wife. It has the equivalent of 2 grams of turmeric in each pill. You can try and use it like it's described in the Mercola article above, but you won't be able to duplicate the Mediherb strength. The one thing I know about herbs, is that there is a big difference in strength and quality. Mediherb is a pharmaceutical strength herbal company from Australia. It's the easy way to help yourself. Talk to me or your local chiropractor. No matter what you choose, take turmeric daily.
Prevention is a hope and an idea, it's a daily habit. It's not 100% effective, especially if you are just starting at 40 years old. But, I can tell you with complete authority, if your diet is top notch, you will live longer. But, you can not follow traditional advice. Following status quo advice from status quo websites gets us all 40,000 women dying next year, just like this year. If you want help with more just email.
