HANG ON...READ THIS AND SEE IF YOU AGREE.
"Maintaining order rather than correcting disorder is the ultimate principle of wisdom. To cure disease after it has appeared is like digging a well when one feels thirsty, or forging weapons after the war has already began." – Nei Jing (2nd Century BC)
If that makes sense, you are going to want to keep reading today, and for the rest of the year. We are going to focus on a real "health" plan.
You might not realize this, but your insurance company has no interest, what-so-ever, in you preventing disease. Medicare, for instance, has a standing policy, that it will not pay for maintenance care. I called Cigna insurance last week, for a patient, and they gave me a long list of non-covered procedures. Nice. To punctuate their lack of service, they highly stressed no preventative care will be covered. They also mandate that a patient preauthorizes care 6 days prior to a visit. Nice. Hey, buddy, you're in a ton of pain, gotta suffer 6 days before you come in. A lotta love in that policy.
All plans are different, wildly different, but there is one constant. If you want to be healthy, you are on your own. To quote the Princess Bride "So remember this, and never forget..."
If you don't have a plan to be healthy the world will have a plan for you.
This is the WORLD PLAN
Number of deaths for leading causes of death (2011 CDC)
Heart disease: 596,577
Cancer: 576,691
Chronic lower respiratory diseases: 142,943
Stroke (cerebrovascular diseases): 128,932
Accidents (unintentional injuries): 126,438
Alzheimer's disease: 84,974
Diabetes: 73,831
Influenza and Pneumonia: 53,826
Nephritis, nephrotic syndrome, and nephrosis: 45,591
Intentional self-harm (suicide): 39,518
Do you like it? I don't. Most of you know I lost a very close family member last week and I'm sick and tired of loved ones dying early. A mere hundred years ago, heart attacks barely registered a blip on causes of death, hardly any physicians had ever seen one. How do you think they developed into the number one cause of death? I'll give you a hint, it's not from eating bacon and eggs. They ate a ton of that 100 years ago. Cancer had the same meteoric rise to the top.
I talked a lot about death and dying in the office last week, and a patient told me that they had a super-fit 50 year old friend just drop over with a heart attack. Obviously, we all die, but going out at 50 is BS. The cause of this will likely shock you and disrupt what you think about fitness.
This is really a line in the sand for me, and a fence to high to comfortably sit on. I want all of you to live long, exciting lives. Unless, you have a better plan than the WORLD PLAN, you won't. The odds are extremely against you.
I have to borrow something from a patient. You have two choices.
Easy / Hard
or
Hard / Easy
Eating poorly is easy (fast food drive-thru's are full), life becomes harder later with high blood pressure and obesity. Watch the movie "Super-Size Me" if you haven't.
Good eating is harder, but life is easier later because you aren't saddled with a myriad of diseases and drugs.
Most people are on the WORLD PLAN and coasting along. I don't want that for you. I want you awake, alive, and mad.
I have a patient in the Draper office who has lost over 100 pounds, Yes, over 100, this year. He made a decision to change his diet and he stuck to it. He showed me the before picture and it was shocking. So, if you are thinking it's too late, it's not. Change is not easy, but it's not too late.
But..but...but... doc. I have...(fill in the excuse), I've heard them all. I've used them all. I used to be 30 lbs. heavier.
This is a universal paradox...
You are free to choose, but you are not free from the consequence of your choice.
My kids hate this.
I'm tired of having good people die of heart attacks, and cancer. If you are too, then lets make some changes together. Being healthy isn't for every one, because it's a choice. If being healthy is a new choice for you, send me an email. I'll answer any of your questions.
I want you to think about something. If the current trends and recommendations being given were healthy, do you think cancer and heart disease would be so unstoppable? I'm going to give you a lot to think about over the rest of the year.
How are you doing? What would your ideal health look like? How will you feel?
Wow, I almost forgot. You might have thought the commander-in-chief I was talking about was the president. It isn't, it's your nervous system. It is your commander-in-chief. It controls everything you do. If your nervous system is down, you are not healthy. Research has shown us that people who get adjusted are healthier than those who don't.
When I was in chiropractic school, if I felt ill, I'd go get adjusted 3-4x / day and I'd be 80-100% better the next day. No supplements, No diet changes, just adjustments. The top of your neck has direct control of your immune system and the rest of your body.
This is where your new "health" plan starts, because everything you do, and change after today, will be easier and work better when you have a competent commander in charge. Right? ;)
Once again, research tells us that people getting adjusted at least once per month can consistently get better. Those not getting adjusted returned to their original problems, on average, in 10 months. If you haven't got adjusted this month...start here and get in.
FYI. Even the Journal of the American Medical Association just came out recommending chiropractic for low back pain. Chiropractic is far more amazing than that, but it's a start.
